July 20, 2002
Trying to avoid being late/rushed on our way to a show, we left Methuen bright and early in the afternoon, when the sun was warm. We made a brief stop in Manchester where Gabe got himself a new guitar (ask him about specs - i don't know much about those things). The rest of the band spent an hour or two trying out gear we can't afford and other fun things until we decided to head to Concord to find the Cafe Eclipse. With relatively minor problems finding the place, we had like 2 hours before load-in, so we chose to waste it walking the streets/eating our meal for the day.
At around 7:30, we met up with our area merch-boy Jim Martin, who helped us out for the evening and put us up for the night. We met and talked to the band Synj, who were actually really polite to us, going against the "so-death-metal-they'll-stab you,-laugh,-and-stab-you-again" image we'd gotten from Deprez' reconaissance work. At load-in, we discovered that Concoskshun, Dysfunkshun, and Superkid (3/5 of the nights bill) were not going to be playing, which ended up for the better for us. Instead of playing with a bunch of "crazy metal bands", we got to play with the aforementioned Synj (heavy semi-melodic rock), Crowne Vict (same deal - Deprez knew about these guys and really hyped them up for us), and a band called August Avenue (very Thursday-sounding), who we liked enough that we invited them to play with us on sunday at the sad cafe. We had a decent sized crowd, and a bunch of people actually responded to our set, which was good to see. The set went quite smoothly tonight, as opposed to last night's debacle (oh, which we DID get a call back for).
Jim got some pics and video, so we'll post 'em when we're good and ready...
