We weren't sure what to expect from this show. We didn't know the venue, didn't know the area, and had no fans (to our knowledge) in the area, with the exception of the show's promotor, wake of jade Ryan. We weren't even sure we wanted to play, other than as a favor to wake of jade Ryan. But that's not even the best part - because the show was wicked good!
We arrived in oakland at the Oasis cafe to find a nice, clean, teen center type place... with no real setup for live music. we were running PA for the show, so we got to setting up with a quickness. Chapters of Conversion, the local band we were paired with, showed up off and on throughout the process. And then we tested the sound in the place. It's not often we play in a place with carpeted floors and suspended ceilings, and it made for some pretty sweet, clear acoustics. And what made it sound even MORE great was the packed in bodies! It seemed like everybody from the durn village showed up for this thing.
Then COC played after which most of the people just kind of loitered around near the door. Our set was right after that. This was our first time playing together in about a month, so the performance probably a little dank... but we didn't care. the reason being, of course, because it was so much darn fun. Audience members that are rocking out to this extent can't hear a sloppy stop to save their life. so we're real lucky that nobody's life depending on that!
anyway, bottom line on this show was, of course, ultimate goodness. We really appreciate the Oasis and wake of jade Ryan, and our self-proclaimed #1 fan, black-haired dude. Mark it for a rerun.

caleb.
