This was our first show in a while at which Coheed and Cambria didn't play. Well, depending on how you look at it. Anyway, Muscle City set up the show and asked us to play. We had a cool show with them before, and we'd be stupid to turn down an invite for a show. Also, i have a Moog now, and i want to show it off live. Despite that, i couldn't really be down for the show.
As a result of a bunch of things happening to me that are interfering with the band stuff, the band was starting to take it easy (limited duty, i call it) for the rest of the year. Also, circumstances were forcing me to take an indefinite leave from the band. This show was supposed to be my last show for a while, after which band buddy Kirsten was supposed to fill in.
Anyway, when i got to Portland from Boston, i found that due to miscommunications that would have been comical had they not been completely awful, i didn't have the equipment i needed to play show as normal. On top of that, it was only a 20 minute set (or 3 songs long in softer-speak), and it didn't seem worth it to borrow a bunch of gear and jury-rig it up. Plus i was wicked mad.
Anyway, i opted out of the show, marking the first show i've missed since i joined the band (try saying THAT, Sean Higgins!). I was still there though, and it was kind of cool to actually watch my own band perform (try saying THAT anybody except for Charles Long, Matt Deprez, Sean Higgins again, and maybe Jason!) I was in a better mood after watching the little set, and even though i'm pretty sure that this wasn't our scene, i have to admit that good times were had when the mainepunx kids created the mock-shakesperean-swordfight-drama dance to the tune of Calico (although apparently they created this a while back and just do it at every show). It was even kind of cool when a fake dead guy was kind of lying on my foot, only to be resurrected for the final chorus.
Anyway, long story short (or should i say "short story shorter"), it was a bummer to miss my last show. although not a complete waste of my time, the day seemed kind of miserable (especially since i had to ride Greyhound both ways in the same day, and Greyhound sucks like the movie Pearl Harbor). so it was kind of a downer way to go out. hopefully i'll be back in action sometime in the future. Cause i really want to bust out the Moooooog....
